Relojes Musicales

Bernardo González

They were beautiful carved wooden clocks that the Arabs exchanged for macaws, and which José Arcadio Buendía synchronized with such precision that every half hour the town rejoiced with the progressive chords of the same piece, until reaching the culmination of a precise and unanimous noon with the complete waltz. The importance in the creation of “Los Relojes Musicales” lies in the sonic simulation of an object and an imaginary invention, achieving the emulation of an automaton-like instrument of time. Clocks have been an essential invention for humankind, granting logic and structure to our lives; specifically, mechanical clocks are astonishing in their assembly of gears, parts, and tiny mechanisms that work together in precision to show us the two hands that order our days. Exploring the idea of multiple automated clocks designed to play music led to an imaginary invention and a sound work that brings to the foreground the ticking of the clocks and the sixty beats per minute that we barely perceive in our daily lives.”

Artist bio

He studied composition at CIEM and later graduated in Music and Artistic Technology from ENES Morelia (UNAM), where he developed a strong interest in the intersection between sound, narrative, and technology. His music explores atmosphere as a storytelling device. Working with sampling, textural processing, and custom MAX/MSP devices, he constructs detailed sonic environments that function as narrative spaces. Influenced by composers such as Jonny Greenwood and Ryuichi Sakamoto, his approach moves between cinematic sensitivity and contemporary experimentation. He specialized in film scoring under the mentorship of Tomás Barreiro, collaborating with him as an assistant composer. His credits include the films La Cocina, El Club Perfecto, and Los (casi) Ídolos de Bahía Colorada, among other audiovisual projects. His debut album, Ficciones Sónicas, reflects his ongoing exploration of sound as a fictional and spatial medium.
