Weaving the Intangible

Joaquin Jimenez-Sauma

Weaving the Intangible is an immersive soundscape that explores the collective sonic heritage of Freesound.org through a random selection of the platform’s last ten uploads. Eschewing complex AI or excessive manipulation, the composition employs dub production techniques to create a natural auditory hierarchy where background hums and foreground elements coexist in their raw essence. The work balances the spatial mystery of Jamaican dub—highlighted by the serendipitous inclusion of a "dub skank"—with the minimal, data-driven philosophy of Raster-Noton. This approach allows the sounds to retain their informational quality, occasionally shifting into mechanical glitches that reflect the artist's research into the intersection of data and music. Ultimately, the piece functions as a living ecosystem that mirrors the unpredictable landscape of the platform itself, inviting the listener to traverse a sonic world where chance and meticulous placement become one.
